M-bus remote meter reading system | | M-bus is short for meter bus, a twin wire communication system for remote reading of meters by a computer. Up to 250 meters can be read on one twin wire system. Advantages are: - Automated reading, avoiding mistakes and labour costs
- Readings can be updated as quickly as it takes for a computer to read from each meter.
- More information than just heat alone is available to M-bus, such as flow rates and temperatures.
- Other meters such as power meters can be read with the same system.
- Radio and internet links are available for reading from remote meters
The M-bus communication system is defined in EN 1434 parts 2 & 3 for heat meters and EN 13757 for remote reading of any type of meter. Data can be stored in a database for analysis or exported for energy billing applications.
